For Whom

Here you see an overview for which you can go to Hubbub Research Center for dietary advice or nutritional advice. Dietary advice is a diet that has to meet specific requirements for medical reasons, such as dietary advice for diabetes mellitus or celiac disease. A nutritional advice is a general advice about nutrition, aimed at fitting the Guidelines for a good diet into daily life, for example nutritional advice in case of pregnancy or vegetarianism.

Overweight and obese in adults

To lose weight, we teach you how to gradually build up a healthy diet, tailored to your experiences and wishes. Your commitment, in combination with an energy-restricted diet (fat-restricted and / or carbohydrate-restricted) and sufficient exercise, will ensure that you achieve the desired result. If it turns out to be eating emotionally, can provide insight and make changes in dealing with emotions, can be part of the treatment.

Overweight and obesity in children

As a certified pediatric dietitian, Hubbub Research Center  can help children / youngsters grow to a healthy weight with the help of achievable goals. It is the small adjustments that make the big difference. During the intake, the dietary habits of the child and the family will be discussed and, based on this, a customized diet and exercise advice will be given. Hubbub Research Center  will advise you on how to apply these healthy eating habits in the family. During the various consultations, she will motivate and encourage you to sustain the changes that are needed for this. In order to successfully treat the overweight, the involvement of the parents is important in the first place. The parents play an exemplary role, but are also very important in motivating and stimulating the child.

Children and food

As a certified pediatric dietician, Hubbub Research Center can help you and your child in various areas. This includes learning a healthy diet, growth retardation, constipation, (toddler) diarrhea, celiac disease (gluten intolerance), lactose intolerance, fructose intolerance, cow’s milk allergy, underweight, overweight / obesity, dental caries (cavities) and dental erosion. Please contact us for more information.

Diabetes (diabetes mellitus)

In order to improve your blood sugar values, we will check whether you have a regular diet, do not consume too many fast sugars and whether you want to lose weight. A carbohydrate-restricted diet is possible, with excellent results. Your exercise pattern will also be discussed. Complaints such as thirst and fatigue will decrease or disappear if your blood sugar levels improve. Questions about what you can take at parties and holidays are addressed if desired.

High cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia)

To improve your cholesterol levels, it is important to balance the type of fats in your diet. It also looks at how much fiber and fish you eat. In the case of obesity, losing weight is desirable because it changes processes in the body, thereby improving cholesterol levels. The role of special cholesterol-lowering foods, recipes and what you can pay attention to when shopping (for example, reading labels) are discussed.

High blood pressure (hypertension)

To lower your blood pressure and support the effect of your blood pressure-lowering medication, it is important to follow a salt-restricted diet. 75% of the salt that we get is hidden in food. We will check whether you are ingesting too much salt and how you can reduce this in a tasty way (using other cooking techniques, low-salt flavorings and recipes). With small changes you can already save grams of salt per day. Losing weight is desirable.

Underweight / weight loss

To achieve weight gain an energy and protein enriched diet is needed. Together we discuss what caused the underweight / weight loss (for example lung, heart, gastrointestinal problems or cancer) and what adjustments you can make to your diet, possibly supplemented with dietary preparations. Advice such as reducing complaints (for example, decreased appetite, chewing and swallowing problems) can also be given.

Stomach, liver and intestinal problems

– Constipation
Bowel problems are common and usually relieve discomfort and sometimes pain. To improve bowel movements, attention is paid to, among other things, fluid intake, fiber intake and various living habits. How can you eat more fiber in an easy and tasty way? Attention is also paid to suspected stopping or laxative effects of foods.

– Reflux / heartburn
Reflux / heartburn means the backflow of the acidic stomach contents into the esophagus too often. To reduce these complaints, your fluid, fiber, fat and alcohol intake are looked into. Also important are the meal distribution and portion sizes. Finally, rules of life that are important for reflux / heartburn are explained. Losing weight is desirable because it will reduce the symptoms.

– Lactose intolerance
To reduce symptoms such as nausea, bloating, abdominal pain / cramp and / or flatulence you will be advised which adjustments to your diet are needed. With a lactose- restricted diet, only a few adjustments are often required. A lactose- free diet is rarely necessary, but as an experience expert, Hubbub Research Center  can give you plenty of practical advice. To prevent deficiencies (calcium / B vitamins), suitable milk product substitutes are advised.

– Fructose intolerance
The diet with fructose intolerance is a diet with little to no fructose, depending on the threshold value. Symptoms such as cramps, flatulence and / or diarrhea mainly occur after eating free fructose (especially in dried fruit, honey and fresh fruit), fructose added to various foods and regular (table) sugar. It is discussed, among other things, which foods and sweeteners you can actually use, which types of fruit contain little fructose, how you read labels and how you can compile a varied and complete diet.

– Celiac disease
In the case of gluten intolerance, following a strict gluten-free diet is the treatment, but around 40% of the foods in the store contain gluten. Hubbub Research Center  is a specialized Celiac Dietist and a member of the Dutch Celiac Association. You can go if you have recently been diagnosed with Celiac Disease, in which you can learn the knowledge and use of the gluten-free diet in 4 consultations. Even if you have had celiac disease for a long time and want to check if your diet is full, if you have nutritional questions or if there are too many antibodies in your blood. Indispensable subjects of the treatment include reading labels (think of: what about ppm, may contain traces of, claims and logos), which types of bread are gluten-free, tasty and contain sufficient fiber and iodine,

– Gluten sensitivity (NCGS: Non Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity)
Although there is still much uncertainty about gluten sensitivity, it is a recognized condition. Before testing whether dietary adjustments reduce symptoms, it is necessary to exclude a wheat allergy and celiac disease (gluten intolerance). This is to prevent that other possible causes of the complaints remain untreated. Then Hubbub Research Center  can help you to see if there is gluten sensitivity and how your symptoms can be reduced through dietary changes.

– Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
In order to reduce symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea and / or constipation and bloating, the type and amount of fiber and carbohydrates (FODMAP-restricted diet) that you ingest will be looked into. Attention is also paid to moisture, gas-forming products and regularity in the diet. Opinions on how to eat more vegetables and what suitable snacks can be discussed are discussed.

Oral health problems: caries (cavities), dental erosion (wear) or periodontitis (inflammation of periodontium)

Nutrition is a preventive tool for promoting oral health. For dental problems such as decay (caries), dental erosion (wear) or periodontitis (inflammation beyond the gums, periodontium) a healthy diet is important. Caries can cause pain when chewing, pain in the mouth and loss of teeth. Hubbub Research Center  and you (and / or your child) look at how often and what is eaten and drunk in a day. Practical advice such as limiting eating moments, reading packaging (where is sugar in / other names for sugar), which snacks you should choose / not choose, etc. In dental erosion, attention is paid to the use of acids in food and beverages, and in periodontitis, the fullness of the food (you get enough vitamins and minerals) is essential.

Bone descaling (osteoporosis)
If your bone mass has decreased by 25%, there is osteoporosis and you have an increased risk of fractures. To delay (further) bone loss, it is important to get enough calcium and vitamin D. Moderate use of salt, alcohol and caffeine is also important because these substances prevent good bone formation. Finally, attention will be paid to stimulating bone-stressing exercise.

There is no standard cancer advice. The advice depends, among other things, on the symptoms, (decreased appetite, aversion, changes in taste and smell, fatigue), the treatment and the stage of illness. In the first instance, a diet is recommended that is composed of foods that you are used to. The consistency of the diet may be adjusted or drinking foods or supplements are advised in case of weight loss or certain complaints.

COPD (lung disease)
With COPD, the goal of a diet is to maintain or improve muscle mass and nutritional status. The body is in a good nutritional status if it can have enough energy, proteins, vitamins and minerals at any time. This way you stay in good condition, you feel better and the resistance to (lung) infections is greater. In the case of underweight, it is desirable to arrive because this benefits muscle mass and nutritional status.

Healthy food before, during and after pregnancy
With a pregnancy wish it is important that both the woman and the man have a healthy diet with attention to sufficient vitamins and minerals. When overweight and having a pregnancy wish weight reduction is desirable. Furthermore, tailor-made advice may be required for PCOS and overweight. During pregnancy, nutritional advice can help with annoying ailments such as nausea/vomiting (or Hyperemesis Gravidarum in extreme cases), fatigue, gastrointestinal complaints, oedema and constipation. Finally, Hubbub Research Center can advise you as an experiential expert how you can get rid of your pregnancy and answer questions about breastfeeding.
